Eight civilians killed and over 100 injured in LTTE bomb blast- Colombo

LTTE terrorists carried out cowardly bomb blast targeting innocent civilians at the Fort Railway station this afternoon (February 3). Eight people have been killed and over 100 others suffered injuries as a suspected LTTE suicide bomber blew herself up on the third platform of the railway station around 2.10 p.m, said the defence sources.
Director of the National Hospital Dr. Hector Weerasinghe says that 10 of the injured were in critical condition. According to the railway control room the explosion has occurred at the third platform. The police and security forces have already started investigations into the incident. Meanwhile Deputy director of the Kalubowila Hospital Jagath Ariyaratne says 6 persons with minor injuries from this morning’s blast at the Dehiwala zoo are receiving treatment at the hospital. Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara says the police and the army are conducting a joint investigation regarding the improvised explosive device that blasted off at the zoo. The explosion occurred near the Bird’s Park “Kurulu Uyana” of the Dehiwala Zoo. The zoo was evacuated and temporarily closed for visitors following the incident.
