OCHA head exposes LTTE propaganda stunt: "No damage to UN compound"

posted by Editor at

Head of UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sri Lanka, Zola Dowell, speaking to BBC Sandeshaya on 6th February, claimed that no damage was reported to the UN compound and all UN staff are accounted for.
She was referring to a LTTE propaganda claim on 05th February, following an aerial strike by SLAF jets at an identified LTTE position at Karadipokku in Kilinochchi. According to pro-LTTE media stooges, a hostel of UNDP and UNHCR staff workers was damaged in the aerial raid, which Zola Dowell had denied in an interview with the BBC's Sinhala edition "Sandeshaya".
Viewing contradictions between the LTTE claim and OCHA's denial, defence analysts say the LTTE despite losing ground in the battle front is also running short of propaganda stunts. Making further comments on the lame LTTE strategies, a senior defence observer said that these are usual cries of the wounded tigers to gain propaganda mileage. "Air burst bombs" falling in close proximity of schools, densely populated villages, UN and NGO offices are repeatedly clamored by the outfit, to distract the surging military thrust at the last LTTE footholds in Kilinochci and Mullaittivu districts.
Accordingly LTTE is also denying flow of battle information to its' grass root cadres. Losses of senior LTTE terrorists in aerial raids are kept tight lips from reaching the front lines, reliable 'Intel' sources said.
