Police conducts further investigations on Modara bomb

Extensive investigations are being conducted into the bomb blast at Ibbagewatte in Modera this morning.
Police media spokesman and senior DIG N.K. Illangakoon says the explosion took place when the police was conducting a special search operation on a house in the area around 6’0 clock.
He added an LTTE suicide bomber, who was hiding in the house, has exploded himself when the police was about to search him.
Seven persons who were injured in the incident have been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. Three policemen and four civilians were wounded.

Army spokesman Brigadier Nanayakkara said a 9mm pistol, a magazine and five bullets were found inside the house.

The government has called the services of the government analyst for further investigations. It has also been reported that the police has arrested a suspect this morning in connection with the blasting of transformers in Kalpitiya, Puttalam. The army spokesman said 8 kilogrammes of c-4 type explosives, a roll of wire and batteries were found buried in his garden.
