Terrorism will be defeated, north liberated soon and political freedom assured for all – Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse
posted by Editor at 2:11 AMPresident Mahinda Rajapakse assured to the nation that terrorism would be ultimately defeated and the victory for all will prevail soon.
Mahinda Rajapakse speaking on the 60th anniversary of the country’s Independence at Galle Face, in Colombo this morning emphasized on the need for the eradication of terrorism, embracing the meaning of freedom, assured that North will be liberated soon from the clutches of terrorists, and said that the burden of high costs of living and other economic hardships are not permanent but those are only short-term difficulties which would lead to long term benefits and a life free of oppression.
While speaking, Sri Lanka President pointed out “I believe freedom is something that has to be made meaningful day by day. We have now arrived at an era where we have decisively dedicated ourselves to enrich the substance of freedom.”
While tracing the history of Sri Lanka’s Independent struggle he rightly said “You know that we did not win independence for the benefit of one community alone. The Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Burghers, Malays and all participated in the freedom struggle. None of us wanted freedom for a divided country. We all wanted freedom for a single country.”
Mahinda Rajapakse added From the time of Handy Perinpanayagam, leader of the Jaffna Youth League who first called for full independence for Sri Lanka, to the time of Dr. T. B. Jayah, and Ponnambalam Ramanathan, whose statue stands at the Presidential Secretariat premises today; all our people were in the freedom struggle.
President in his address at the Galle face where 60th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence Day was celeberated categorically said, “The problem today is that there is no space for the emergence of such heroes. If there were such heroes who fought for the independence of a single country, they would have fallen victim to LTTE guns. Therefore, we will liberate the North from the clutches of terrorism and also provide a political solution and bring political freedom to the people there.”
