Batti Local government election begins on Monday

Programmes to enlighten the election officers on the process of local government election in
Batticaloa will begin today. Election officers, Grama Niladaris and other public officers who are on Election duties will be involved in these programmes. The propaganda of the election is to be concluded from Friday mid-night. The voting will commence on the 10th of this month at 285,
centers. Representatives for nine local government bodies including the Batticaloa
Municipal council are to be selected by the vote. Meanwhile, Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake says 8 documents of identification are accepted for the local government elections. According to the Election Commissioner the Local Government Election in the Batticaloa District will be held on next Monday. The Assistant Election Commissioner, Batticaloa, S.Sudakaran says all election propaganda activities end at midnight on next Friday. Only Government vehicles brought from Colombo will be used for election duty.
The election will be conducted at 285 centers. There will be 10 centers solely for displaced
voters to cast their votes.
The Assistant Election Commissioner adds that training sessions for all officials engaged in
election duties will be concluded within the next few days. Executive Director of PAFFREL Kingsley Rodrigo says election propaganda are being carried out in a most appropriate manner. He further says election monitoring activities will be expanded from next Wednesday with the deployment of more local and foreign observers.
