Due to inadequate English

A member of the Monetary Board of Sri Lanka and Deputy Chairman/Managing Director of Associated Motorways PLC Deshabandu Tilak De Zoysa, addressing a ceremony to award scholarships to children of company employees who had passed the government’s Grade 5 scholarship examination said, “Sri Lanka lost many opportunities for employment in BPO companies due to lack of English educated young people.
India gained in BPO and IT sector employment because there were sufficient English educated people within their country.”
A Rs.1500 per month scholarship from Year 1 up to university entrance together with a Rs. 700,000 insurance policy was also awarded to Ms. V.P. Udari Niwansala Pathirana of Rambukpitiya, Nawalapitiya. Miss Pathirana’s father died in a road accident while on duty and she entered the Year 1 class this year.

Jayamali of Kegalle Balika Maha Vidyalaya, H. Chethani Chandraratne of Pesbitirian Vidyalaya, Chamara J. Wijetunga of President’s College, P.S. Haridi Tissera of Sri Sumangala Maha Vidyalaya, J.C. Kosila Fernando of Pushpadana Balika Maha Vidyalaya, G. Lakmini Karannagoda of Thakshilava, Horana, V.G.M. Teekshana of Sri Dharmaloka Maha Vidyalaya, M.P. Abeykoon of St. Paul’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya, U.P.R. Lahiruni of Lakshapana Maha Vidyalaya, H.A.H. Pasindu of Bandaranayake Maha Vidyalaya, Vinura L. Perera of D.S. Senanayake Maha Vidyalaya, K.H. Liyanage of Ashoka Vidyalaya and K.V. Saminda Kumara of President’s College.

On this occasion Mr. Tilak De Zoysa also awarded long service awards to 13 employees who completed up to 30 years service in the company.
