Everything is OK for local polls

Preparations are underway to hold elections for the Batticaloa Urban Council and for eight other local government bodies in the Batticaloa District on Monday. There will be 291 polling centers and six of them have been especially reserved for displaced voters.
Assistant Election Commissioner Batticaloa S. Sudakaran says remaining election officials and all vehicles will arrive in the district by tomorrow. He further says postal votes of 923 out of 934 eligible voters have already been received. The remaining postal votes are expected to be received by 4’0 clock on Monday afternoon.
Extensive security programme is being carried out. The Assistant Commissioner adds that the peaceful situation is prevailing in the district.
Election propaganda activities ends at midnight tonight.
