Government will not postpone EP polls

Government Defence Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella emphasises the government’s stance on holding Eastern Provincial Council Election remains unchanged.
The government has no intention to delay the election. Speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo today Minister Rambukwella reiterated the government would take every necessary action to hold the election free and fair.
It is the present government who gave the people of eastern province their supremacy by liberating the province from terrorism. He pointed out elections are being held to further safeguard the people’s supremacy. The local government election in Batticaloa was such a measure that was taken by the government. Speaking further Minister Rambukwella said the rumours spreading about the eastern provincial council election are false.

Joining the media briefing military spokesperson Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara disclosed two air raids that carried out to an air strip of LTTE at Mullative. The pilots have confirmed the air raids caused heavy damages to the LTTE.
The humanitarian operations in the Vavuniya, Mannar and Welioya areas are continuously carried out despite bad weather. The forward defence line of the LTTE at Adampan in Mannar and Periya-pandi-virichchan at Vavuniya has been captured by the army troops.

During this month 678 LTTE cadres have been killed from confrontations with the Army troops. Furthermore, 73 army troops have also paid their supreme sacrifice during this period. 316 troops have been injured. Speaking further the Brigadier added the Army had also recovered large number of weapons of the LTTE during this month.
