IHRC commends Sri Lanka

The International Human Rights Council has commended Sri Lanka on its efforts to safeguard human rights.
Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe says the commendation was expressed at the 7th session of the council held in Geneva in Switzerland recently. Speaking at a media briefing held at his ministry the minister said at the session India, Pakistan, Japan, The Philippines and China hailed government measures such as finding a political settlement to the north east issue and the resettlement drive.
At the media briefing head of the peace secretariat professor Rajeewa Wijesinghe said relevant bodies have been enlightened on the unfounded nature of the report issued by Human Rights Watch regarding the country.
