Independence group can make their deposits to contest for the EPC polls

The Assistant Elections Commissioner in Batticaloa S. Sudakaran said the Independence group can make their deposits to contest for the eastern provincial council election.The deposits can be made in the branch offices of assistant commissioner located in Trincomalee, Ampara and Batticaloa. The offices will also be opened for this purpose during week ends in addition to week days. Each candidates contesting in this election should make a deposit of 2,000 rupees. The closing date for these deposits will be the 2nd of next month by noon. Arrangements have been made to issue the nomination papers to the independent groups when the deposits are made. Recognised and accepted political parties do not need to make these deposits. The nominations for the eastern provincial election will be accepted from 27th of this month to 3rd of next month. Accordingly, Mr. Sudakaran further said the distribution of applications for the postal voting will end tomorrow. 37 members will be elected from the forthcoming election. The Election Commissioner will announce the date of election on the last date of nominations. Several recognised political parties are expected to participate in this election.
