Labour Minister Mervyn Silva, notorious for threatening media personnel, yesterday has lashed out yet again, on a group of ‘News First’ journalists of the Maharaja Media Network.
The journalists had come to report the latest progress of the Kelaniya flyover.
Addressing the journalists, he has said, “I am neither indebted to you, nor do I have anything to do with you and am not afraid of you. You are the most vagrant, despicable media institution in the country.”
“It is you who create a rift between the Sinhalese, the Tamils and the Muslims in the country. Therefore, I have nothing to do with this channel of yours,” he added.
“Today, I point my finger at you. Hereafter I will raise my hand. Therefore, in the future, do not let me see you attending any function held in my electorate. I ask you who spread evil to find a place to hide,” Minister Silva has threatened.
Sirasa Media officials have lodged a complaint with the police in regard to this open act of intimidation.
Minister Silva’s threat takes place barely before the lapse of three days when he promised not to intimidate the media at the meeting between the President and the SLRC trade unions.
