Navy recovers mortar bombs in Kayts

Acting on civilian information, naval troops deployed in Kayts island, Jaffna recovered a haul of ammunitions, mortar bombs and hand grenades on Wednesday (March 12) at 1.p.m. security sources report.
The warlike items were found buried beneath a statue in a abandoned Catholic church at Nerinchimunai in Kayts. During further search operations conducted in the area troops also found a leather travelling bag, naval sources said.
"The war-like materials might have been hidden by terrorists with the intention of retrieving to perpetrate sabotage when require", naval sources further added.
