Navy rescues 71 persons

The Navy has been successful in rescuing 71 persons stranded in an unidentified craft in the sea off Mulativu. The Navy media spokesman Commander S.K.P. Dassanayke says 50 of them were Burmese nationals and the rest were Bangladeshi nationals.
The spokesman adds that it has been established that they were illegal immigrants heading for Malaysia and Thailand.
