PAFFEREL plans to monitor forthcoming EP polls

The PAFFEREL Organisation says it is ready to monitor the Eastern provincial council election.
The organisation notes this election as a special provincial council election of the country which will be held after 18 years in the eastern province.

The Managing Director of the Organisation Rohana Hettiarachchi said the observations will begin with the handing over of nomination papers. Speaking further he disclosed one thousand five hundred monitors will be deployed for this purpose. Discussions are also being held to get the contribution of foreign observers.
Meanwhile, the time period of applying to vote through post for the eastern provincial council election has been extended till the 3rd of next month.
The time period to request to vote at the nearest polling booth for the displaced has also been extended till that day although the closing date was today. Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dishanayake says this decision has been taken considering the current situation in the province.
Voters who are eligible to vote through the post should certify their application through the clarifying officer of the polling booth before sending it to the registered district returning officer. However, the applications forwarded after the closing date will be rejected.
Officers of the state corporations, statutory boards and security members who will be deployed for election duties in the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee can also vote through the post.
