Project Forumulation Mission on expansion of Victoria Hydro Power Project

A five member project formulation mission headed by Dr. Akira Niwa, Senior Advisor, Institute for International Cooperation, JICA was dispatched to Sri Lanka to conduct the feasibility study on the expansion of the Victoria Hydro Power Plant, a technical cooperation proposal submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) through the Government of Sri Lanka in year 2006.
The team was dispatched between 02nd and 18th of August 2007 in order to understand and discuss the content of the proposed project with the relevant organisations in addition to conducting the Environmental I m pact Assessment (EIA).
The project intends to expand the Victoria Hydro Power plant to meet the rapidly increasing electricity demand of the country through -increasing the capacity of the electricity generation of the existing plant.
Minutes of Meeting (M/M) was confirmed between CEB, Ministry of Power & Energy and the mission team on the 16th of August 2007 on the agreed contents.
