Cement Research & Development Institute (CR&DI), a TUSDEC subsidiary, has started tests of the cement being exported to Sri Lanka, in line with testing standards of that island nation.
TUSDEC sources here Monday said that Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) is being tested in accordance with SLS 107: 2007, the standards formulated by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI), according to a press release.
CR&DI possesses the facilities to test four types of cement - Ordinary Portland Cement, Sulphate Resistant Cement, White Portland Cement and Slag Cement in line with the standards of UK, USA, India and Pakistan.
The CR&DI established in 1983 by the State Cement Corporation of Pakistan (SCCP), was revived by TUSDEC in 2006 after it had remained idle for several years.
It is capable of carrying out tests of cement and allied materials such as OPC, SRC, slag cement, white cement, blended cement, shale, clay, clinker, sand, iron ore, feldspar, gypsum, kiln dust, limestone, slag, fly ash, pozzolana, lime sludge and aggregates.
It is also capable of conducting the calibration of equipment such as Compressive Testing Machines.
The spokesman observed that CR&DI expects that more cement users and manufacturers will utilise its facilities to ensure consistent quality during construction, adding that testing is vital to ensure the quality and strength of cement and concrete.
