Refusal to allow S. Thomas’ rugby team practice at Police ParkProbe against top cop
posted by Editor at 10:37 PMThe Police Department has ordered a high level inquiry into a refusal by a highly placed police officer to accede to a request from S.Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia to use the Police Park Grounds Bambalapitiya for rugby football practice for the College team, led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s younger son Rohitha.
The College had requested the use of the police ground as there was a security threat against the members of the President’s family.
The request to use the police ground was made by the President of the old boys’ rugby club of S. Thomas College Tissa Jayasinghe and Police Headquarters had agreed to grant the request. But the high official concerned had told him that no practices or matches for school teams could be allowed.
A few weeks back a claymore mine went off at Wellawatte and it was found that the bomb exploded around the time when the President’s son goes for his rugby practice. The intelligence unit believe the claymore bomb was intended for the President’s son.
