The three-member SLFP committee appointed to inquire into Labour Minister Mervyn Silva’s December 27, 2007 conduct at the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation was finalizing its report but it could be somewhat advantageous to the Minister, party sources said yesterday (19).

Sources said no one seemed to be talking about the assault on Mervyn Silva during SLRC incident which they described as inhuman, but his entry to the SLRC in the company of undesirable elements was also found by the committee as an unbecoming conduct by a person in public life.

The committee had recorded evidence from a number of senior SLRC officials in this regard and Mervyn Silva was also to appear before the committee.

President of the Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association Poddala Jayantha said he had no confidence in the SLFP committee conducting an impartial investigation.

SLFP General Secretary and Minister of Agriculture and Mahaveli Development Maithripala Sirisena said he did not wish to make any comment since he did not look into the affairs of the three-member committee that conducted the investigation at party level.

The three members of the committee are Minister of Healthcare and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Power and Energy W. D. J. Seneviratne and Western Province Governor and senior SLFP trade union leader Alawi Mowlana.
