SLRC unions to seek compensation for those attacked

Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation trade unions have decided to meet the Minister of Media and Information Anura Priyadarashana Yapa to discuss payment of compensation to SLRC employees who were attacked by thugs recently following the recent incident involving Dr. Mervin Silva at the SLRC.

The employees who were attacked with knives and a razor were Lal Hemantha Mawalage, Ranjani Herath and Anurasiri Hettige.An SLRC union spokesman said President Mahinda Rajapaksa, during
SLRC unions the talks he had with the union representatives, had requested the Minister of Media and Information to take steps to pay compensation to the employees who were injured in the attacks.

Trade union sources were also concerned that the special police teams deployed to investigate the attacks on the SLRC employees had still been unable to arrest any suspects. They hoped to take the issue up with the minister during their discussions with him, he said.
