16 LTTE killed as troops continue advances in Welioya
posted by Editor at 4:11 AMAt least 16 LTTE were killed and 31 others seriously injured in sporadic clashes erupted between troops and LTTE in yesterday's (Apr 23) fighting ahead of Welioya defences at Kiriibbanwewa, Janakapura and Andankulama.
In addition to LTTE losses an Army soldier was reported killed and 5 others wounded during the confrontations, security sources said. According to reports received troops have also recovered 4 T-56 assault riffles, 3 radio- communication sets, a claymore mine and 141AP mines in subsequent search operations conducted.
