4000 displaced due to floods

The flood situation in several districts of the country has displaced 4000 people so far, the government said today.
The Disaster Management Centre said in Ratnapura district alone, two thousand families have been displaced. The number of displaced families in the Puttalam district is 600. The Red Cross Society is in the process of distributing dry food, water bottles and other requisites to the victims.

The Irrigation Department says water levels in the Kalu, Ging and Kelani rivers continue to rise.

The Department of Meteorology predicts further heavy rain accompanied by thunder will experience in the western, sabaragamuwa and central province as well as in the Galle district today.

It has also been reported that the tornado which has developed over Jaffna is moving 650 kilemetres to the northwest of the island.
