8 LTTE bunkers destroyed, 5 terrorists killed and 16 wounded in clashes
posted by Editor at 9:58 AMHeavy fighting broke out between security forces and LTTE in the Wanni and Northern battle theatres yesterday (April 13), where 5 LTTE were killed and 16 others reported wounded.
According to reports received, SLA infantrymen forced through the LTTE FDLs in Muhamalai, Jaffna in a pre-dawn offensive launched on Sunday. The Media Center for National Security (MCNS) said the military offensive lasted till 8p.m., where heavily fortified 8 LTTE bunkers were reported destroyed by troops.
In a separate incident in general area Muhamalai, a soldier was reported wounded during a confrontation with LTTE, yesterday afternoon, MCNS said. An LTTE terrorist was also killed during the incident, the sources further added.
In the Mannar front, 2 LTTE terrorists were killed in SLA launched attacks in general area Vediyamurippu, military sources report. Meanwhile, during search operations conducted in general area Kattankulama, troops have recovered 35anti-personnel (AP) mines, security sources said.
In the Vavuniya battle front a terrorist was reported killed and 2 wounded, while another was shot dead and 14 others reported wounded during intermittent clashes with troops separately in general areas Janakapura North and Kiriibbanwewa in Welioya on Sunday.
In addition a soldier has laid his life and another wounded in clashes with LTTE in general area Vedimakulama, Vavuniya security sources said.
