Closing of Medavachchiya area check point - public in trouble

(Lanka-e-News, ) Together with the assassination of Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, Security forces have banned exit of vehicles from Vavuniya side and also the civilians to go through Medavachchiya Area Check Point. Therefore, more than 1500 people including students and employees were seen hanging around the check point as they were not permitted to go through.
The people of Sinhalese villages such as Poonewa and Galkandegama which are situated between Vavuniya and Medavachchiya are also facing heavy difficulties due to this ban.
Vehicles and civilians are not permitted to exit from Vavunia side to the south through the checkpoint but this rule is not applicable to the vehicles and civilians who are going to North through the checkpoint.
Earlier, from 2nd February this year, the same ban was effected on vehicles and civilians not to pass through the area check point of Medawachchiya. However, people who are residing close by to the check point were allowed to go through the check point under special permission, but from yesterday, that special permission was also cancelled.
