Gemini labs refuses to hand back "Prabhakaran"

posted by Editor at

The popular Sinhala language daily, the Divaina, reported that Chennai's Gemini Colour Laboratory refused to hand back the Sinhalese and Tamil language negatives robbed from the Director of the controversial film entitled Prabhakaran.
Pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam political activists robbed the negatives of the full length feature film named after the LTTE leader Prabhakaran when the Director of the film Thushara Peiris was there at the Colour laboratories attending to the processing of the film.
The newspaper quoted him having said the laboratory administrators asked for a letter from the Federal government in New Delhi to handover the negatives of the film to its rightful owners when the director of the film travelled back to the colour laboratories to receive the negatives he owned.
The laboratory owners in a seemingly frustrating act told the owners that the film negatives robbed from the director could only be released with the permission of the central government.
Thushara Peiris gave up his protest fast and travelled to Chennai to obtain his film. While this drama was taking place the trailer of the film appeared in the Youtube. Divaina newspaper said only a copy of the film has been handed over to the director when he went to the Colour laboratories in Chennai.
Meanwhile, political activists went to the civil courts in Chennai to block the release of the film from the laboratories. A civil court issued a temporary restraining order delivering the prints of the Sri Lankan film Prabhakaran for a week.
Additional City Civil Court judge Sethuraman of Chennai issued notices to the State Home Secretary Director General of Police the Union Home Secretary Sri Lankan film producer Osmund de Silva and film Director Thushara Peiris to file a counter in two weeks. The case has been filed by pro- LTTE political party Viduthalai Chiruthaigal katchi President Thol Thirumavalan.
In his plaint the pro LTTE party VCK leader said the film highly affected Tamil Diaspora. He said the film was being dubbed in the Gemini Colour labs in other Indian languages including Tamil. The judge postponed the hearing until April 8.
