posted by Editor at 10:10 AMThe government firmly rejects rumours of a rice shortage in the country. The government has taken steps to import 50 thousand metric tons of rice from Myanmar and 100 thousand metric tons of rice from India.
The World Food and Agriculture Organisation will also provide 50 thousand metric tons of rice in the coming weeks. Speaking at the cabinet press briefing in Colombo this afternoon Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said the people need not have any undue fear regarding a possible rice shortage.
The Minister also rejected the report published in a daily newspaper today that Sri Lanka plans to obtain nuclear energy from Iran.
