Government is engaged in developing the eastern province -Defence Spokesman
posted by Editor at 10:05 AMMinister Keheliya Rambukwella stresses that the government is not prepared to curb in anyway the liberty granted to the people of the east. He observed that the government is engaged in developing the eastern province while ensuring the rights of all its communities. The government took steps to conduct local government and provincial council elections so as to grant them political freedom.
Speaking at a press conference in Colombo today Minister Rambukwella stated that the elections grant the people the complete authority to decide on the manner of enjoying their liberty. He said the country’s main opposition and the LTTE are attempting to give back these victories to the terrorists. He assured that the government will not allow the liberty of the eastern people to be violated through a hidden LTTE hand which seeks to govern the area.
Meanwhile Minister Maithreepala Sirisena says the ability to conduct an eastern provincial council election is an outstanding victory of democracy. Speaking to media in Colombo today he pointed out that a massive development is underway in the province utilising local and foreign funds. Also speaking at the press briefing Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said the chief objective of the eastern election is to make the people partners of the development drive.
