JVP conflict will be deepened
posted by Editor at 10:35 PMSunil C. Perera in ColomboPolitical sources say the conflict between the JVP and the dissidents will be deepened with the JVP ‘s hard-line decision on the dissidents.
However the JVP said their door is still open for the dissidents who want to rejoin the party.Last week , Piyasiri Wijenayake and Achala Jagoda said that they did not submit a complaint to the police regarding their hijacked vehicles .
They have already submitted a letter to the Inspector General of Police and stating they did not a complain about the vehicle theft.Local television giant MTV and SIRASA also criticized this letter and said these dissidents cannot withdraw their complain because a police sergeant of the Parliament Police was beaten by a group of the JVP and robbed two vehicles from the parliament complex.
These vehicles were imported under the duty free concessions and property of the public.Commenting on the dissident MPs ' letter Mr.Tylwin Silva said they have to withdraw their complaint if they want to honor their parliament colleague Jayantha Wijesekara , who is in remand in connection with the vehicles robbery.
However dissidents say Jayantha Wijesekara is one of leading member and also contesting for the Eastern Polls on behalf of the JVP.He has no personal intention to rob these vehicles but he led the party’s decision to remove vehicles .Due to these factors they do not want to proceed with this case against Mr.Wijesekara.Last week the Colombo Magistrate ordered to remand JVP parliamentarian Jayantha Wijesekara till 17 th of this month. According to the sources the JVP will appear in courts on tomorrow on behalf of Wijesekara.According to the General Secretary of the JVP , these vehicles belonged to the JVP .
Meanwhile Inspector General of Police Victor Perera says that he cannot withdraw this complaint. He said his department could not accede to a request made by two JVP dissidents to release JVP Trincomalee District parliamentarian Jayantha Wijesekara.
He said that the police cannot take the law into its own hands but had to act according the decisions of a Court of law.
Commenting on the request made by Jagoda and Wijenayaka to release Wijesekara, he said according to the law a suspect once remanded could not be released without an order from Court. He said Wijesekera was charged with not only robbing vehicles from the Parliament garage, but also assaulting a police officer on duty there.
