JVP denies conflict with PNM
posted by Editor at 9:49 PMThe Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has denied having any conflict with the Patriotic National Movement.
The JVP's Chief Secretary Tilvyn Silva has said that the party still considered the PNM as an ally, adding that the two parties still worked closely at electoral and district levels.
Only a few in the leadership are shaken because of Wimal Weerawansa, he said in an interview with the April 20th issue of 'Irida Lankadeepa.'
"The PNM came into being in 2003. We marched against the UNP from Galle to Colombo. That march paved the way for its inception. It is not an affiliate of the JVP. But, the JVP contributed immensely towards the PNM. Wimal represented
the JVP at the PNM. It was the JVP that shouldered the financial and other responsibilities of all its activities in the past. But, it is not the property of an individual, or an affiliate of the JVP."
Elaborating further, Mr. Silva said, "We believe that without the JVP's mediation, no national movement can function in our country. Only the JVP has the strength to keep a national movement alive because such a group on its own takes an anti-imperialist form. Only the JVP has the ability to maintain such a movement. Those who cry out slogans are not the true anti-imperialists. They are the ones who have plotted alliances with imperialists."
"They have the citizenship of imperialistic countries. The PNM is a true ally of ours. The JVP shoulders the responsibility of taking it forward. On no account the JVP will abandon its bond with the PNM."
"In recent times, we have had major political goals. That is to defeat western and Indian interferences, to overcome separatist terrorism and then bring about true freedom and unity to the nation," the JVP Chief Secretary added.
