Local Ayurvedic minister stop import of 37 ingredients from India
posted by Editor at 9:10 AMMinister Tissa Karaliedda says the import from India of 37 ingredients used to manufacture aryurvedic medicine has been stopped. These herbs are now cultivated in the country under the Osu Uyan programme. The ministry of Indigenous medicine purchases these plants. A herbal farm has also been cultivated in a 50 acre land in Nikawaratiya.
Meanwhile, the National Drug Authority is to conduct raids on 10,000 registered pharmacies islandwide. The raids will be conducted this month within four days. They will focus on the issuing of medicine without prescriptions, employment of unqualified pharmacists, operating unregistered pharmacies and selling drugs that are not approved in the country.
