More Additions to the Rising Number of People Seeking Protection from the Navy

Adding to the rising number of people seeking protection from the navy by surrendering themselves to the Fishing Marshalling Points at Pesali and Pallimunai in Mannar manned by the navy jointly with police, due to continuous harassment, forceful conscription, and scarcity of basic needs, sixteen (16) people made their daring appearance around 6.30 am, today (16 April).

Nine persons, four females aged 60, 45, 25 and 23 years, the mothers and daughters of two families respectively and five male individuals aged 31, 22, 18 and 19 years, all in their adolescence and young ages, appeared before the Pesalai Fishing Marshalling point by arriving by a boat after they had been dropped by another fishing craft a little distance away.

The seven (07) person who arrived at the Pallimunai were all relatives, mother (38 years), two sons (06 and 13 years), two daughters (16 and 17 years) of one family with the two daughters (17 and 18 years) of the elder sister of the mother. They too had dared to walk in the shallow lagoon after being dropped by another fishing craft some distance away.
They all were residents of Vedithalthievu area, which is yet to be liberated.
