Mrs. Fernandopulle as Katana SLFP organizer

The President has decided to appoint the wife of slain Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s organizer for the Katana electorate.
The succession of Dr. Mrs. Sudarshani Fernandopulle to the post comes after calls by close associates of the late Mr. Fernandopulle as well as the SLFP activists in Katana.
According to sources at the SLFP headquarters, the President has invited Mrs. Fernandopulle to enter active politics to take forward the vision of her late politician husband.
After consulting the family as well as political friends, she has consented to the request, according to the sources.
Already an active social worker, Mrs. Fernandopulle has promised to finance the education of the child of her husband’s bodyguard, who died along with him in a bomb blast at Weliweriya on April 06th.
She has also visited the homes of other victims and undertaken to help the bereaving families.
