Muhamalai offensive is part of govt. poll-propaganda
posted by Editor at 4:47 AMThe Muhamalai offensive is a hurriedly planned attempt by the government with the ulterior motive of gaining advantage at the forthcoming Eastern provincial Council elections, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake has charged.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo this morning (April 25th), he said that classified reports indicate a certain defeat for the government at the May 10th polls.
In order to turn the tables through a military victory, the government sacrificed the lives of a large number of soldiers in an unplanned offensive, Mr. Attanayake charged.
He added that the UNP urged the government to refrain from using the security forces as a bait to achieve petty political gains.
