Public hails government measures to regulate rice prices.

 


Consumers have hailed the measure taken by the government to regulate rice prices. They are confident that this endeavour will be effective.
The special gazette for controlling prices of rice is now in effect. The maximum wholesale and retail prices for rice have been declared by the gazette notification number 1545-8-17-04-2008. Secretary to the ministry of trade R.M.K. Ratnayake said the government decided on these prices after consultations with leading paddy mill owners.
He said they have agreed to sell rice at these prices. The ministry secretary said leading traders have also agreed to sell rice at government stipulated prices.
