Ratnapura under flood threat

Following torrential rains, several districts including Ratanapura are under threat of flooding.
The Department of Meteorology predicts more rain in the coming 24 hours as well. A tornado developed in the Bay of Bengal, 600 kilo meters from Jaffna is causing the disturbance.
Heavy rain is expected in the Districts of Galle, Matara, Kalutara, Colombo, Gampaha, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya and Kandy in the next 24 hours.
The National Disaster Centre says several low lying areas in Wennappuwa, Kalutara and Ratnapura have been inundated as result of floods caused by heavy rain.
The National Building Research Organization saysareas marked in the disaster map as earth slip prone areas are receiving heavy rain. Districts of Kandy, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Galle and Matara have been identified as vulnerable areas.
The Department of Irrigation says that water levels of Kelani, Kalu and Ging Gangas are rising due to incessant rains and warns residents in low lying areas to remain vigilant.
