SL to contest WHO DG post

Sri Lanka will contest the post of Director General, WHO that falls vacant next month, a spokesman of the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition said today.
Sri Lanka is in an advantageous position to win the influential post as a result of its performance in eradicating certain disease like Polio and the controlling the spread or HIV /AIDS, hydrophobia and the role played in the ratification of Kyoto Protocol by UN member countries, he said.
