Troops move ahead in Mannar front; 13 terrorists killed
posted by Editor at 3:20 AMDefence sources in the Mannar battlefront this morning said that 13 terrorists had been killed in yesterday's (Apr 19) clashes with troops. Sri Lanka army Infantrymen backed by Armour and Artillery continued their march into the LTTE dominated Wanni territory right throughout the day battling against the LTTE bunkers, booby traps and, 1000s of anti personnel mines.
In the general area Parappakadattan, army elites sprung an ambush at a group of terrorists around 4, last evening and claimed 7 terrorists killed. Troops suffered no casualties in the incident.
Meanwhile, army infantrymen and armour tanks engaged two terrorist bunkers located in the general area Adampan around 4.30pm. Ground troops confirmed that 4 terrorists were killed while own suffered no casualties in the incident.
Elsewhere in Admapan, army snipers deployed in the frontline declared shooting down of 2 terrorists last evening.
Own casualties for day in the Mannar front reported as 2, as one soldier suffered injuries in LTTE mortar fire in Adampan and another suffered gunshot injuries during a confrontation in the same area.
Also, troops engaged in clearing operations in the newly liberated areas removed 142 anti personnel mines, one booby trap and found 2 hand grenades from Parappakandal and Admapan areas.
