Dilan wants 1 bonus seat given to a Tamil

Minister of Justice Dilan Perera wants one of the bonus seats the UPFA has won at the East PC polls given to a Tamil candidate to realistically represent the interests of the community in Trincomalee.

In a letter to the party's General Secretary Susil Premajayantha, Mr. Perera says the 48 per cent of Tamils in the district are not properly represented at the provincial council.

It has only two Tamil councilors, both elected from the UNP, out of a total of 10.

While noting that he strongly opposes the consideration of ethnicity in any matter, Minister Perera says he wants to see the hand of friendship is extended in all honesty to the Tamil people of Trincomalee through the implementation of his suggestion.
