Already struggling Consumers caught in the cross fire

posted by Editor at

It is only recently, the fuel price and the electricity tariffs were raised by the Govt. On various pretexts. The fuel price hike was the fourteenth increase in two and half years since this Rajapakse Govt. came into power, and the electricity hike was the highest ever increase on a single occasion in the history of Sri Lanka.!
Not enough the burdens imposed by the Govt. on the people by price increases all round, now there are threats of power black out too to incommode them.

It is alleged that even after the tariff revision the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has not paid its dues to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) which can lead to CPC‘s diesel supplies to the CEB being withdrawn necessitating power cuts.

Judging by the regular steep price increases by these two Institutions , it is argued whether both Institutions are having holes in the pockets (larger than the manholes !) through which all the income earned by extorting from the people are draining out , for, with all these increases they are unable to uplift the people or themselves.
