Another journalist assaulted

Journalist and Course Coordinator of the Sri Lanka Press Institute, Namal Perera and one of his journalist friends attached to a Foreign Mission in Colombo had been assaulted by unidentified men, who came in a white van at Narahenpita this evening. They were admitted to a private hospital in Colombo.

A gang in a white van and a motorcycle ambushed his car, between Narahenpita and Kirulapone Junctions, around 6.15 pm today (June 30th).

The assailants had tried to drag him out of the vehicle, but failed.

Then, they had assaulted him with clubs.


He was rushed to the nearby Apollo Hospital at Narahenpita, SLPI sources said.

The assault came barely days after the appointment of a five-member ministerial committee to investigate harassment of the media.
