Army Chief meets his ground commanders in Jaffna

General Sarath Fonseka, alert to the most recent security concerns unfolding in the northern Jaffna peninsula, following a couple of outbreaks of LTTE violence received an update from Jaffna Commander and respective Division and Brigade commanders when he met them Tuesday (17) morning at Jaffna Headquarters.
Lieutenant General Fonseka during his meeting with those Commanders highlighted the importance of looking into all the needs of the soldiers serving the area while ensuring welfare measures and their transport in order. Desertions among the troops, he said, should be kept to the minimum, if we were to defeat the enemy. "Commanders should make a special note of it and act accordingly," Lt. General Fonseka reminded.
Taking stock of the internal security situation, preventive measures, counter operations against the LTTE and possibilities of the enemy's infiltration, Commander stressed the need to further beef up security network with minimum inconvenience, caused to the general public. He also paid attention to several administrative measures that were taken up for discussion during the same meeting. Jaffna Commander Major General G.A Chandrasiri received the Commander and his entourage on arrival at the Palaly air base.
