Jaffna will again be safe for journalists – Military

Jaffna district Commanding Officer Major General Chandrasiri says security will be tightened in the Jaffna peninsula over the next few weeks.

The Commanding Officer, who had a discussion with local journalists in Palaly on Wednesday, said there were attempts by the LTTE to infiltrate Jaffna via the lagoon. Security will also be provided for newspaper presses to operate here too, the Jaffna commander said adding that they will patrol the areas surrounding media houses and ensure the security of journalists in the peninsula.

The new security for journalists in Jaffna follows threats faced by them being raised with the government.
