JHU to refrain from North Central & Sabaragamuwa PC elections

The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) has decided not to contest the North Central and the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council elections.
The decision follows extensive discussions at the JHU Central Committee, says, Party General Secretray, Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera.

The JHU is based on their position of not accepting the Provincial Council system and also because these PC's are not as important as East PC polls, the Thero said.

Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera said that the JHU actively participated in the setting up of the Eastern PC with the intention of establishing democracy in the area.

Noting that the JHU was of the opinion that the government should focus on defeating the LTTE rather than on holding elections and implementing political agendas, Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera urged the government not to them give undue prominence.
