Lal Kantha to contest from NCP?

In a dramatic political move following the dissolution of the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils, JVP MP K. D. Lal Kantha is tipped to be put forward as the JVP Chief Ministerial candidate for the North Central Province.

North Central Provincial Council JVP leader R. K. Indrananda told the Daily Mirror that the move was endorsed by some party members in the area at an informal discussion.

He said the idea was mooted mainly as some members felt that the party should take up the challenge. However he said the move had to be put on hold after the Opposition decided to take legal action against the dissolution.

Reached by the Daily Mirror Mr. Lalkantha said he had not made any decision to contest the election but would do so if the party requested him.
