Ministerial Committee on Journalist’s grievances commenced

Government appointed Ministerial Committee on Journalist’s grievances commenced its work from Tuesday.
The committee is housed in the BMICH , Colombo .According to the committee it has decided to fulfill six objectives such as help and ensure independence of media personnel and media institutions, To inquire into complaints of harassment and death threats to media personnel and intervene if such allegations are correct, To bring better understanding between state officials and media, To provide social recognition to media which depends national sovereignty and security, To follow up on projects proposed to promote the welfare of media personnel and ensure speedy implementation ,To assist in safe guarding right to incorporation of all citizens and create a responsible and social recognized media culture .
The Committee includes seven ministers namely Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa , Dulles Alahapperuma, Dr.Rajitha Senaratne, Laxman Yapa Abeyawardana , Rohitha Abeyagunawardana and Faizar Musthapa.
Addressing media on Tuesday evening Minister Dr.Sarath Amunugama said the government respects the media freedom and this committee would assists it.
