NLF to go it alone

posted by Editor at

The Jathika Nidahas Peramuna is planning to contest the forthcoming Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provincial Council elections on its own -- once the Elections Commissioner recognises the party, party leader Wimal Weerawansa MP said.
“We had a formal and cordial discussion with Elections
Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka on Tuesday afternoon. He said that he would convey his decision on the registration of the JNP shortly; hopefully, during the course of next week. We have no doubt that the decision will be a positive one,” Mr. Weerawansa said.
.Referring to the party’s preparations for the PC elections, he said the grassroots level organizations of the party had requested the Central Committee to nominate party front liner, Kalutara District MP Piyasiri Wijenayaka, as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the North Central Province and another party strongman Senarathna De Silva as the Chief Ministerial aspirant to the Sabaragamuwa Province. The JNP will take a final decision at its Central Committee meeting scheduled to be held at the end of this week.
Asked about the possibility of Gampaha District MP Anjaan Umma, who officially left the JVP on Tuesday, joining the JNP, Mr. Weerawansa did not rule out such a move.
