posted by Editor at 10:30 PMThe Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake has instructed the Chief Returning Officers (Government Agents) of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kegalle and Ratnapura to display the electoral lists of 2007 for reference of those eligible for postal voting at the forthcoming elections to North-Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces.
Additional Commissioner of Elections (Provincial and Local) W. P. Sumanasiri told The Island that the PC elections would be held according to the Electoral list for 2007 and that separate lists were on display for members of the security forces and the Police.
Senior SLAS official who is consultant to the Elections Secreteriat Bandula Kulatunga said that the Electoral lists had been displayed on June 13 and could be checked till July10.
As the chief Returning officer of the Anuradhapura district (GA) H.M.K. Herath had gone abroad, Additional GA Mrs. M. A. Anula Indrani was making preparations for the PC elections with Nominations to open from June 27 and close at 12 noon of July 4.
Assistant Commissioner of Elections for the Anuradhapura District S.M. Saman Bandulasena said that independent Groups were open to pay their deposits by 12 noon of July 3.
He said that there were 600,000 voters in the district and that recognized political parties could obtain nomination papers for 24 candidates to elect 21 members and that each independent Group was open to deposit Rs 48,000 each.
The Chief Returning officer (GA) for the Ratnapura district Mrs Malani Premaratne said that preparations were on for the PC elections.
The Assistant Commissioner of elections for the district of Anuradhapura M. A. B. C. Perera said that there were 725,000 voters in the district and that nomination lists should include the names of 27 candidates to elect 24 members and each Independent Group would have to deposit Rs 54,000.
The Chief Returning Officer (GA) of the Kegalle district Mrs D. M. P. Dissanayake said that preparations were on for the nominations.
The Assistant commissioner of Elections for the district of Kegalle P.A.S. Senaratne said there were 600,000 voters in the district and each nomination list should include the names of 21 candidates to elect 18 members and that each Independent Group deposit Rs 42,000 each.
The Chief Returning Officer (GA) of the Polonnaruwa District Ranjith Wijetilleke said that arrangements were on to accept nominations.
Assistant Commissioner of elections for the district of Polonnaruwa W. H. R. Wijayakumar said that there were 277,056 voters in the district and each nomination list should have the names of 13 candidates to elect 10 members and each Independent group should deposit Rs 26,000.
