Opposition to propose dissolution of Western PC
posted by Editor at 4:18 AMSeveral opposition figures in the Western Provincial Council are presently at talks with the Opposition Leader and the JVP leadership to discuss the possibility of dissolving the council and going for an election.
A UNP spokesman said that the opposition could bring in such a proposal, in view of the dissolution of the North Central and Sabaragamuwa PCs despite vehement objections.
After several crossovers, the opposition is stronger at the WPC with 64 councilors, while ruling party has only 36 members.
An opposition councilor said that since they command a sizeable majority, a proposal by them for the dissolution of the PC could easily be adopted.
The future course of action will be decided after the court rules on the petitions the UNP and the JVP have filed against the dissolution of the NCP and the SP, he added.
