Petition seeks invalidation of Ampara poll results
posted by Editor at 11:10 AMA petition was filed in the Court of Appeal today (June 04th), seeking the invalidation of the results for Ampara district at the May 10th elections for the Eastern Provincial Council.
SLMC Secretary Hassen Ali and UNP's Daya Gamage are the petitioners.
Respondents cited are the Elections Commissioner, the Ampara Returning Officer, M.L.A.M. Athaulla, Susantha Punchinilame and several others.
The petitioners allege that the poll campaigning in the district had been carried out by government politicians with the use of state-property and that vote rigging had taken place on election day.
According to SLMC sources, a similar petition challenging results in Batticaloa district will be filed tomorrow.
