A Police Sergeant of the Pallekelle Police Garage and two other suspects were remanded by the Additonal Magistrate of Colombo, Ravindra Premaratne for allegedly selling a jeep belonging to the Pannala Police on forged documents.
The CID informed the magistrate the jeep bearing No. 32 Sri 4394 was handed over for repairs in 1995 to the Police Garage at Pallekelle.
The vehicle had gone missing from the garage and the people in the garage were unable to trace it. Thereafter, Director Ranjith Nimal Kulasiri of the transport division complained to the CID.
Following the complaint the CID investigated the matter. Since their investigations did not find any clues they further examined the line of ownership of the jeep from the Registrar of Motor Vehicles and were able discover the jeep had been sold at a purported auction to one Mohamed Fazad Mohamed Mugubu Anfas of Kirindeniya, Mawanella.
The investigations further revealed the kingpin in the dealing was the police sergeant Gamini Dolawatte of the Pallekelle Police Garage.
The magistrate remanded the suspects till June 16 and ordered a private bank to provide the statements from the account of Zaheer Naushad to CID
