SB UNP’s CM candidate in Sabaragamuwa?
posted by Editor at 1:43 AMUNP Leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe told the party’s Working Committee yesterday he was consulting legal experts regarding the possibility of nominating National Organiser S.B. Dissanayake as the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council.
Mr. Wickremesinghe was responding to Kegalle District MP, Premadasa Champika who proposed that Mr. Dissanayake should be made the Sabaragamuwa chief ministerial candidate at the forthcoming election.
Mr. Dissanayake has lost his civic rights following the jail term served by him for contempt of court.
The party has appointed two committees to conduct a preliminary survey in the Sabaragmuwa and North Central Provinces, and make recommendations before working out strategies to face the elections.
For the North Central Province, the UNP was considering the nomination of retired Major General, Janaka Perera as the chief ministerial candidate.
Besides, former senior DIG Sirisena Herath would contest the polls on the UNP ticket in the Anuradhapura district.
